To Be Me: Tony Quon
Tony, a 10-year-old immigrant from Hong Kong, learns to adjust to the challenges of an American education. Contrasts his first impressions of "strange new classrooms" and life in Los Angeles with his initial excitement about moving to America and his hopes in a new country. Set in LA's Chinatown neighborhood, where Tony finds a sense of belonging among people who speak primarily Chinese even as he has less exposure to English and American customs, the film offers a vivid depiction of his world, culminating in the food, firecrackers, and lion dances of Chinese New Year.
