Tender

Black trans women face gentrification and rising rent in a neighborhood they've always called home.
Tender
As San Francisco's gig economy grows, so does the city's need for housing, and the Tenderloin district - a historically Black and queer neighborhood, and site of the 1966 Compton's Cafeteria Riots, which along with Stonewall lit the spark of the current LGBTQ movement - becomes prime real estate for tech workers. Cookie, Janetta (executive director of the Transgender, Gender-Variant & Intersex Justice Project), and Ronjah bring viewers into their world as they fight San Francisco's housing crisis, revealing the precarity gentrification and rising rents place on Black trans women's lives even as the film follows grassroots trans activists working to support their community and tackle trans homelessness.
