Thirteen

A determined mother fights tradition for her disabled daughter's right to a Bat Mitzvah.
Thirteen
A devoted mother is determined to honor her profoundly disabled, nonverbal daughter with a Bat Mitzvah, a Jewish coming-of-age rite she believes her daughter deserves. Her aspirations clash with the synagogue rabbi's opposition, citing longstanding tradition; as tensions rise, secrets from the rabbi's past emerge, forcing him to choose between preserving tradition and embracing inclusion. Inspired by writer/director Allison Norlian's own family and her disabled sister Becky's real Bat Mitzvah. Official selection at Austin Film Festival, Austin Jewish Film Festival, California Women's Film Festival, and Independent Shorts Awards.
